    Possibilities for Adventure

    When County Surveyor William Hodge laid out the plan for Pekin in 1829, he undoubtedly had no idea he was creating one of Central Illinois’ best outdoor playgrounds. From some of the earliest times though, explorers like Robert de La Salle have adventured along our eastern banks of the Illinois River. Today you can still feel the passion for free spirited fun throughout the Illinois River Valley. Wetlands, forests, savannas and prairies, and the birds, butterflies and wildlife who call them home, await your discovery.

    on the Lagoon

    at Mineral Springs Park

    This beautiful building built in 1905, serves as the focal point of our community and is available for your group, family or organization's use. Comfortably seating 70 people, the Pavilion is surrounded with windows overlooking the lagoon and a large, wrap-around porch. Weddings, anniversary parties, baby showers, business meetings, and family get-togethers are popular.

For hunting & fishing: A bevy of campgrounds, trails, game lands, rivers, lakes and streams make us the hub for outdoor action. For outdoor recreation: The state’s fifth largest park district takes parks to the extreme with 2,500 acres in 13 locales of ice skating, trails, canoeing, horseback riding, golf, skateboarding, boating and more.

For lazy days: With exploration of a different kind in mind, hidden treasures await in the Marigold City’s myriad boutiques, markets and shopping districts. The banks of the Illinois River set the stage, showcasing waves of fun in music, theater, dining, sports, shopping, the great outdoors and more. Take your pick in Pekin!
